Henrik Hjortshøj

My name is Henrik Hjortshøj

I live in Sønderborg and I love to entertain with my bagpipe.

I mainly play in the South Jutland area, but if necessary, I also like to drive longer. I have played in almost all of Denmark and in Germany, England and Scotland.

I have been playing bagpipes for approx. 20 years and plays not only solo but also with various pipe bands. Among other things, I have founded two pipe bands in Southern Jutland;

“Sønderborg Pipes and Drums” - SPAD in 2003 and “Aabenraa Pipes and Drums” - AAPAD in 2009.

My professional background of very broad. I am a trained radio telegraphist in the military, where I served for 7 years. After that I was trained as a police officer and was employed by Glostrup Police (Copenhagen West Region Police) for 7 years and finally I served in the Police Radio Service (HS) for 3 years.

I stopped by the police and took a bachelor’s degree in Multimedia Design at Kaos Piloterne in Aarhus in ‘95 and have worked with this ever since.

Other jobs include (I said I have a broad background): truck driver, photographer, sausage man, warehouse worker and teacher.

On the bagpipe, I have been chairman, pipe major, instructor, taught at night school and played both as a member of a band or as a soloist.

I lived for 3 months in Edinburgh, Scotland, where I played on the street (bushes) and attended some bagpipe events.
